US.ChinaEducationReview A,ISSN 2161-623X October2014,Vo1.4,No.10,716-727 … … N 6 A RegressionModelW ithaNew ToolIDBAnalyzerfor IdentifyingFactorsPredictingM athematicsPerformance UsingPISA 2012Indices SerkanArikan MuglaSitkiKocmanUniversity,Mugla,Turkey TherearemanystudiesthatfoCUSonfactorsaffectingachievement.However.thereiSlimitedresearchthatused studentcharacteristicsindicesreportedbytheProgrammeforInternationalStudentAssessment(PISA).Therefore, thisstudy investigated thepredictiveeffectsofstudentcharacteristicsonmathematicsperformanceofTurkish students.InPISA studies,sampling design,sampling weights,andplausiblevalueshave tobetaken into consideration inordernottohave biasedmultipleregression results.In orderto conductmultiple regression na alysesinPISA.softwraecalledtheInternationalAssociation ofrtheEvaluationofEducationalAchievement (IEA)InternationalDatabase(IDB)Analyzerisrequiredtobeusedbecausethedependentvariableconsistsof severalplausible values.Thisstudy aimsto identify studentcharacteristicshtatare significantin predicting mahtematicsperformancein Turkey.Resultsshowedthatbeingsuccessfulinmathematicsisacombinationof severalfactorsinwhichstudents’beliefs,motivation,andotherfactorsmustbeorganizedtoachievemathematics. Amongthesebeliefsandmotivation,strongself-efficacy,positiveself-concept,andminimum levelofanxieyt seem tObethekeyofrSUCCESS.
