US．ChinaEducationReview A，ISSN 2161-623X October2014，Vo1．4，No．10，716-727 … … N 6 A RegressionModelW ithaNew ToolIDBAnalyzerfor IdentifyingFactorsPredictingM athematicsPerformance UsingPISA 2012Indices SerkanArikan MuglaSitkiKocmanUniversity，Mugla，Turkey TherearemanystudiesthatfoCUSonfactorsaffectingachievement．However．thereiSlimitedresearchthatused studentcharacteristicsindicesreportedbytheProgrammeforInternationalStudentAssessment(PISA)．Therefore， thisstudy investigated thepredictiveeffectsofstudentcharacteristicsonmathematicsperformanceofTurkish students．InPISA studies，sampling design，sampling weights，andplausiblevalueshave tobetaken into consideration inordernottohave biasedmultipleregression results．In orderto conductmultiple regression na alysesinPISA．softwraecalledtheInternationalAssociation ofrtheEvaluationofEducationalAchievement (IEA)InternationalDatabase(IDB)Analyzerisrequiredtobeusedbecausethedependentvariableconsistsof severalplausible values．Thisstudy aimsto identify studentcharacteristicshtatare significantin predicting mahtematicsperformancein Turkey．Resultsshowedthatbeingsuccessfulinmathematicsisacombinationof severalfactorsinwhichstudents’beliefs，motivation，andotherfactorsmustbeorganizedtoachievemathematics． Amongthesebeliefsandmotivation，strongself-efficacy，positiveself-concept，andminimum levelofanxieyt seem tObethekeyofrSUCCESS． Keywords：ProgrammeofrInternationalStudentAssessment(P1SA)2012，InternationalDatabase(IDB)Analyzer， multipleregression，mathematicsperformance，PISA indices Intr0ductiOn Internationalcomparativestudies
