Leadership领导力.ppt
Leaders of organizations face a plethora of challenges. Here are some of the things I face on a regular basis, which I think must not be much different from what those of you who lead organizations face. I view my responsibility as securing the library’s financial and political future, as first among all of the various things I’ve discussed today. How to be effective given growing expectations and demands and limited resources; how to reduce territoriality and build a sense of working to advance the entire library, not just one’s piece of it; and how to keep up morale at a time when resources are declining, users want more, librarians have had to take unpaid days off, and there are no salary increases. * Importance of org structure…Structure may seem very formal and off-putting, but it’s very important in terms of defining reporting relationships and establishing authority of positions and the people who hold them. .I especially like this organization chart because it sets the organization within the larger context of its parent organization. And that’s the most important thing for all of us to keep in mind. These are all things you should know and think about regularly. Now, let’s move on to talk about you. Do you still get satisfaction from being a leader? How do you keep from becoming stale? What do your colleagues think about your leadership? * Let’s start with attributes of good library leaders – or, for that matter, good academic leaders, no matter the setting. * Staff in the U.S. today expect and respect leaders who are understanding and supportive while acting decisively after gathering input. They also expect leaders to do their jobs – both to not overreact and to act decisively. Rumors are probably the hardest thing to control, so don’t try. But, it’s important to understand where they’re coming from and why and to act to address them expeditiously. Now, this sounds easy, but it’s one of the hardest things to actually do. * To sum it all up
