Wang Bixia Senior engineer Zhang Lei Abstract The content of sodium oxide is one of essential technical indexes to measure the grade of high-temperature alumina. In the zone of high abrasion goods and china, whether the content of sodium oxide is high or low has great effect on mechanical strength and conductivity of aluminum oxide products. Moreover sodium oxide of the high-temperature alumina originates from aluminum hydroxide. So in order to reduce the sodium oxide’s content, raw material is the first object. The paper discusses some factors influencing on the content of sodium oxide and product size, such as decomposition temperature, the number of crystal seed, types of crystal seed, decomposition time and so on. The result show that under different temperature the content of sodium oxide in aluminum hydroxide becomes lower if the adding number of crystal seed. And under the same temperature the effect of producing low-sodium aluminum hydroxide by self-made aluminum hydroxide as seeds is better than by common fine aluminum hydroxide. With the same situation of temperature and seeds, the content of sodium oxide from aluminum hydroxide decreases lower accompanying with longer decomposition time.
