4. System Response and Convolution The output response of a linear system can be obtained by solving the difference (differential) equations. The solution of the homogeneous equation provides the transient response and the particular (non-homogeneous) solution the steady-state response of the system. This is tedious and difficult for higher order systems (but can be done!). However provides little information about the characteristics of the system.
