The United Kingdom: A Survey 2013 Unit 3 History What is the impact of the British Empire on world history? Prehistoric times: the Iberians Early men came from the European continent and settled leaving behind tools dating back to the lower Paleolithic (early Stone Age) around 700,000 years ago. Stone circles, tombs and tools from the Neolithic Age (which began from around 4,400 BC) have been found all over the British Isles. The Stonehenge near Salisbury was an ancient temple built in several stages between about 3,000 BC and 1,300 BC.
