The novel tells people a story: a black slave woman brutally murdered her infant daughter rather than allowed her to be enslaved, and she received the punishment for her dead daughter .Through Beloved Toni Morrison shows the difficult process of growth of three generations of the black women who are in low position and in both racist and sexist oppression. This thesis mainly focuses on the tragic life of the black people and their sufferings. within the family of Sethe analyzes the causes of the distorted human relationships. This thesis is divided into four chapters: chapter one introduces the background of study and Toni Morrison. Chapter two analyzes the three generations of the black women and their sufferings and reveals the cruelty of the slavery, including feminist criticism and Beloved. Chapter three analyzes the three generations of the black women .Through the efforts of generations, finally build themselves up, and bravely face the present and the future. The last part is the conclusion of the thesis, analyzes the Morrison’s great national consciousness to improve and enhance Black material life and social status. At the same time, she also focus on the future of this nation. So Beloved ‘s great influence no only belonged to Black, also to the whole society.
