Unit 1 Meeting and Entertaining Clients
Introduction
In business world, people often meet and entertain (招待) their clients(客户). The proper ways of meeting and entertaining clients are very important to establishing and maintaining good business relationship. During the process, people know each other better, so it is critical to the success of business. Generally, when your business clients come to visit you, it is polite for you to meet them at a certain place, such as at the airport or at the hotel etc. And then, entertaining activities are usually necessary. When choosing the ways to entertain business clients, we should consider their age, education, cultural background as well as their interests and hobbies carefully. It’s better to avoid talking about politics, religion(宗教) and some topics involving privacy in the process of entertaining our foreign business clients.
Discussion
In your opinion, what places are suitable to meet business clients?
How many proper ways can you think out to entertain your clients or your friends? List them out as many as possible.
Listening Speaking
Task 1 Wang Hua is the sales manager of a company. He is meeting a client, Mr. John Smith, from America at the airport. Listen to their talks and fill in the blanks.
W Wang Hua S Mr. Smith
(An American is coming up to Wang Hua.)
W: Excuse me, are you Mr. Smith from America?
S: Yes, I am.
W: Glad to meet you, Mr. Smith. I’m Wang Hua, the 1 manager. We’ve talked through _ several times before.

W: My pleasure. Welcome to China. How’s the 3 ?

S: It’s very nice of you to say so. I’m sure we’ll promote our mutual trade in the near 5 . Let’s go to your hotel. The car is waiting outside.
