They equal to a kind of computers which are used to industry control specially, their structures of hardware are the same with mini computers. PLC is the main bridge between CNC and MT as the major part of a machine tool. CNC coordinates with PLC to realize the control of a machine tool. Between them, CNC mainly finishes the functions which relate to calculating and management, such as the edit of component programs, interpolation operation, coding and servo control of position etc. PLC mainly finishes actions which relate to logical operations without specific orders of tracks; it controls related assistant devices to finish related switch actions of a machine tool, such as the clamping of work pieces, the changing of cutters, the switch of cooling liquid and some other assistant actions; it accepts the instructions of the panel of a machine tool and on the one hand, controls the actions of the machine tool directly, on the other hand, takes a part of the instructions to CNC to control the process of machining. 1 The function of PLC in NC machine tools The function of PLC in NC machine tools can be concluded into two aspects below: Realizing the disposes of input and output signals of CNC side and MT side 1 The signals from CNC
