The Mechanism of Nitrate Pollution in Soil and Groundwater 　　【Abstract】Soil and groundwater which are important natural resources are closely related with human health.It will be hard to recover，if it is polluted.Nitrate has become one of the most serious harmful substances contaminated in soil and groundwater.A large number of studies have shown that high fertilizer and irrigation was the main reason of soil and groundwater pollution.Pollution is mainly concentrated in agricultural developed area. 　　【Key words】soil；groundwater ；nitrate 　　Soil and groundwater are the most precious human production and material foundation to the survival of humans.Recent decades ，with the rapid development of society and the widespread use of industrial fertilizers and pesticides，soil and groundwater pollution is becoming more and more serious. Pollutants which get into soil and groundwater by leaching was a serious threat to residents’ drink and food security. 　　1 The status of soil and groundwater nitrate pollution in home and abroad 　　1.1 The research status of soil and groundwater nitrate pollution in developed countries 　　Nitrate pollution have caused great attention in 1950s overseas.In the 1960s， some developed countries in Europe and the United States began to focus on soil and groundwater nitrate pollution， especially the United States，it start system investigation on soil and groundwater nitrate pollution and get the result that the nitrate pollution is already fairly serious.Nitrate pollution has already become the first pollutant of groundwater in America.Most countries’ groundwater has been polluted by nitrate more or less，especially agricultural developed country. 　　1.2 The domestic status of soil and groundwater nitrate pollution 　　Our country also face the serious problems of soil and groundwater nitrate pollution.Especially after the reform and opening policy，the fast development of agriculture and the excessive application of fertilizer caused a large ar
