Unit 18 Inventions -What will you think of next? Analysis of the teaching material It is a reading comprehension text, which centers on the thinking strategies. In the senior years, reading ability becomes the focus and the text is the main source of language input. It is related to our thinking and it can improve the students’ creativity and imagination. A process essay is often considered abstract and dull, so how to guide the students to learn the text in a carefree and effective way is what I’m considering. Analysis of the students The students have a certain command of English vocabulary, grammar, etc. Science students. Most of them are active in thinking, but the levels of the students are not even. Some students are not initiative enough. They must be very interested in this topic. Teaching objects Knowledge objects: to learn some useful expressions by reading the passage; to get a general understand of the passage and finish the task given; to know some thinking strategies by learning the passage. Ability objects: to improve the students reading ability by practicing the reading skills, such as skimming, scanning, etc. to improve the students’ creativity after learning the text. Moral objects: Not only further understand the importance of creativity, but try to internalize the thinking strategies and practice using it in future. Teaching key points How to arouse the Ss’ curiosity about how to become creative by different activities and the students’ interest of learning English. How to get the Ss to master the useful expressions in the text and practice using it in communication.
