PAGE PAGE 1 The Design for Reinforced Earth Retaining Wall and the Exploitation and Application of its System Program Abstract: Based on the basic principle and method of the calculation for reinforced earth retaining wall and the earth pressure coefficient, the process of the project and calculation is realized by the language of FORTRAN in the computer, and the system program is used in a slope treatment project in Guangzhou. Comparing with the design method of the traditional regulations, it is showed that the optimum length required is obtained, the cross section and length of bars are fully used, and the design is simplified. Introduction Reinforced earth retaining wall is composite structure composed of backfill, reinforcing bars and wall panel. Friction between soil and bars enhances the reinforced earth retaining wall strength, improves its physical behavior and reinforces soil cohesion. [1]Based on the specification, system program is exploited to apply reinforced earth retaining wall design by the language of FORTRAN in the computer. The relationship between physical behavior and cross sections of bars, length and layer of bars is considered by synthesis. Not only cross sections and length of bars are fully used and optimized, but the external stability of retaining wall is reinforced accordingly. The questions of the traditional design method are avoided. In the traditional regulation, firstly, the wall section is assumed; secondly, the reinforcement of bars are calculated, the cross section and length of bars are gained. In this way, the haul-resistant coefficient of the top wall is not enough, but it goes beyond at the bottom of retaining wall. The quantity of used bars is excessive. 2.
