Teaching design for basic writing on how to introduce a person Bai Tingting I. Teaching aims: 1. Arouse the students’ interests about the topic by a guessing game. 2. Improve the student’s skill in cooperation. 3. Help the students learn how to do a basic writing of introducing a person. II. Teaching important points: 1. Enable the students to use the expressions or sentence structures to describe a person. About his/her name, age, birth time and place, family background, appearance, character, hobby, education, specialty, career, big events in life, and evaluation by others. 2. Grasp some basic writing skills. Ⅲ. Teaching difficult points: Enable the students to master the steps of writing a passage with 5 sentences. Ⅳ. Teaching methods: Guessing, Group competition, Cooperative work, Learning individually V. Teaching procedures: Pre-homework: Write a passage to introduce yourself in 5 sentences, which should include: 概况(brief introduction): age, birth time and place, family background 相貌/性格/爱好(appearance, character, hobby) 教育/专长/事业(education, specialty, career) 生平(big events in your life) 评估: (evaluation by classmates or teachers) Step 1 Leading in: Guessing game Read 3 or 5 students’ work and get students to guess who he or she is. The winner can gain one star for his/her group. Step 2 Practice sentence writing skills Present good sample sentences of describing a person and get students to practice writing sentences with better expressions or sentence structures. The student who makes a correct sentence can win one star for his/her group. Step 3 Practice a basic writing Review the steps for a basic writing. Require them to finish it in 10 minutes. Ask students to check their partner’s work and correct the mistakes in red ink. (remind them to pay attention to tense, person, agreement) Present one in each group and evaluate them. The better one can win two stars for his/her group. 5) Add up all the stars
