The Approaches Used to Improve English Class Teaching in Rural Areas 提高农村地区英语课堂教学的方法06级英语本科1班 学号:0605111020 指导教师:*** 职称:副教授 摘 要Abstract With the development of economy, the discrepancy in education between cities and rural areas is becoming larger and larger. In rural areas, there appears the poor performance of English class teaching partly due to the limited teaching conditions, the plain class activities and the like. Based on the investigation made in Shang Tushi middle school, this paper describes the reasons from the perspective of family, school, educational system, teachers and students respectively. The later part of the paper lays stress on improving the English class teaching efficiency in rural middle schools and puts forward some effective approaches in accordance with students’ psychology and existing problems in classroom teaching. It covers motivating students’ interests in learning English; improving teachers’ qualities; using interaction to enliven the classroom atmosphere etc. Of which developing cooperative learning is the most practical technique. Introduction With the advancement of times, education is paid more and more attention, especially in vast majorities of cities. At the request of era, English is a must subject. As we can see, in cities, almost every family hires a tutor for their children or sends them to join the English learning class in their spare times. In this way, a lot of students in cities take good English training; even the little children can speak fluent English. However, in rural areas, the situation is not optimistic and extremely urgent. In rural areas, the teaching condition is very poor and limited. First, it still adopts the traditional teaching pattern, that is, a teacher is saying on the platform while his students are listening on their seats.
