How to Use This Book ......Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon is 504.6 kilometers long with an average depth of 2.268 kilometers and a deepest place of 6.009 meters. It is the world’s largest canyon for its average elevation of over 3 kilometers. Its geography is quite precipitous, since this Canyon is full of glaciers, precipices, steep hills, mudslides and great rivers with rogue waves. Hardly anyone stepped on the several square kilometers’ land in the Canyon, not to mention scientific research until 1980s. Bio-diversity on this land is richest on Tibetan Plateau, since there lives two thirds of known higher plants, one half of known mammals, four fifths of known insects on Tibetan Plateau and three fifths of known fungus in China.Natural eco-system in Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon is quite fragile. A large number of animals and plants that now live in this region may gradually disappear ten years later (maybe earlier). We hope to record them with images timely.“Himalaya Eco-observation Series”, a record of biodiversity observation and ecological images in Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, Southeastern Part of Tibet and Ali Prefecture, is by far the most comprehensive investigation of animal and plant resources in this region. The image data is also of highest quality among all the animal images taken in this region.Chapters in this book are arranged according to species. This book also includes observation map and scripts added by editors.Chapter of BirdsThis chapter includes 155 groups of birds, which belong to 100 families, 34 genus and 11 catalogue, including Lophophorus Impejanus, Tetraophasis szechenyii, Ithaginis cruentus, Lerwa lerwa and other rare pheasants living on high mountains. Lophophorus Impejanus is also referred to as nine-color bird, since its feathers have seven colors and are like shining medal. It is an extremely rare bird in Himalaya which has a high value for appreciation. Subspecies of Ithaginis cruentus in this region has the most colorful features
