The Slavery in Uncle Tom’s cabin and its Influence Ⅰ. Introduction Uncle Toms Cabin was written by American realistic writer. Mrs. Stowe wrote it to response the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which made it illegal for anyone in the United States to offer aid or assistance to a runaway slave. Stowe, a Connecticut-born teacher at the Hartford Female Academy and an active abolitionist, featured the well known character of Uncle Tom, a long-suffering black slave around whom of stories the other characters—both black slaves and slave owners—revolve. The novel seeks to attack the law of Fugitive Slave Act and the system it protected, endlessly advocating the immediate emancipation of the slavery and freedom for all people who are subjected to persecution. The sentimental story depicts the reality of slavery while also advocating that the powerful Christian love can overcome something as destructive as enslavement of human beings. When the novel was first published, this story encountered with strong community concern and response. Some scholars have stated that Stowe recognized her novel as offering a solution to the moral and political dilemma that bothered many slavery opponents: Whether engaging in prohibited behavior was justified in opposing evil. As the indirect factor of the civil war of American, it has played an irreplaceable role in stimulating people’s anti-slavery feeling. This works, whether in the aspects of thought and art, or the historical status and literary value, are rare works in America abolitionist literature .It even creates the affection to the historical process of the America. The most distinctive view in this works lies not only in the exposure and disgusting to the black slavery, but also in the totally different black image comparing to other works. Ⅱ.
