Standard #1: Learner Development
The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.
Summary of Research Base
Standard #1 addresses teachers’ knowledge of child and adolescent development and their ability to draw on such knowledge in instruction, assessment, and collaboration with others. There is strong research evidence in support of Standard #1 in the areas of teachers’ instructional practices, teachers’ assessment practices, and teacher collaboration. We created summ
