Three principles of 1787 constitution Systerm of Checks and Balances The executive branch consists of eleven departments and many independent agencies. The department heads, called secretaries, form the cabinet which is one source of advice and assisstance to the president. Congree The chief function of Congree is to make laws. Congree is made up two houses: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate has 100 voting members, two from each of the fifty state. They may be elected for an unlimited number of six-year terms. Two-thirds of the Senate votes, the president is impeached. The House of Representatives has 435 voting members plus a nonvoting representative from Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia respectively.The members of the House are called representatives of Congressment, They may be elected to an unlimited numberof two-year terms. Judicial The US Suprime Court is headed by a chief justice and eight other judges, all called justices. the Suprime Court has the sole right to interpret the constitution. Democratic principle shows the president is directly elected by coters and only responsible for the voters, no administrative Congress.
