Course Description Broadcast News English is a book to develop listening skills about news English at the intermediate level of English language learning. The teaching of listening to news English has focused on the related vocabulary accumulation (相关词汇的积累), specific background acquisition (特定背景的习得) and then general understanding of the recent news. Course Description I-1 Contents of the Book This book is well-organized in 15 thematic units altogether, covering politics, economy, culture, entertainment, sports, scandal, people, education, high tech, food fitness, health, nature, terrorism and religion. Teaching Objectives Expose learners to more real language environment and enhance learners’ listening skills Enlarge learner’s vocabulary significantly and contribute to developing other skills such as reading, speaking, writing and translation I-2. Teaching Objectives I-3. Teaching plan The course is scheduled to last one academic semester (一学期) and involves 4 weeks and 36 periods (课时) in total. During this semester, we’ll finish half of the book. plus the first 3 periods of introductory course (导入课). The course will have 9 periods each week and 4 weeks for this semester. Considering the difficulty level of the news, we are planning to teach 1 unit for 3 periods. What we will do in class mainly involves Part A and B in each unit and you are expected to make a presentation on relative topics and the rest will be done by yourselves after class. I-3.
