It also explores how human activities influence geological processes and, consequently, environmental processes and focuses on ways that geological resources can be better managed. Detailed Course Description This course is taught with the idea that this is the first geological course you have taken. It strives to provide you with a good general background in physical geology. Origin and formation of rock types and the minerals that compose these rocks are discussed. Emphasis is placed on describing the importance of geological processes involved in the rock cycle and how those processes shaped the Earth as we know it. Processes of continental drift, sea floor spreading, volcanism and subjection zones are explained and their physical, environmental and economic significances explored. The roles that heat, water and wind in the processes of weathering and erosion are discussed in detail to give you a deeper understanding of how granite mountain ranges, karst landscapes, coastal plains and coastal zones are formed.
