My understanding of text reading_________________________
When students try understanding a text, it is just like climbing a mountain. There will be many obstacles on the road, mostly language barriers and cultural differences.
So what can the teacher do to help students while they are “climbing a mountain”? I think mainly there are two steps. Firstly, it is necessary for the teacher to lay down steps in the mountain so as to help students climb it more easily. That is to say, sometimes we need to adapt the text in accordance with students’ language levels, so that they can better understand the writer’s ideas. Secondly, it is necessary for us teachers to design a path in the mountain along which students can enjoy the beautiful scenery. That is to say, we need to create some learning activities and tasks for students, helping them “get over the high mountain” and deeply understand what the writer really wants to say in the text.
With teachers’ help, students can finally understand what the writer is trying to express and share the same feelings with each other. In a way, students and the writer are combined, just like “yin” and “yang” in the “ba-gua”.
