Results There were 331 valid questionnaires and the valid returned rate was 66.2%. Of the 331 respondents, 40.7% of general practitioners and 37.5% general nurses knew the clinical guidelines for acute stroke management and secondary stroke prevention, 51.9% of general practitioners and 37.5% of general nurses reported that they had the capability of managing patient with stroke. The correct rate of answering questions about stroke assessment and management was 24.4%, and the correct rate of secondary stroke prevention was 37.5%. For the total score of stroke prevention and treatment, there were significant differences among the community medical staffs with different specialty before working in the community health service and whether they had received the general practitioner training (P0.05).
