This is the question that research on translation universals is attempting to answer. The idea that translated texts might share “universal” characteristics stems from the general impression that 1)?translated texts differ from their source texts in regular ways that can’t be attributed to the interaction of the specific language pair, and 2)?translated texts differ from non-translated texts in the same language in regular ways that, again, are not related to the interference of any particular source language.
