AP Statistics Syllabus 2008-2009 Course Design The AP Statistics course is taught as an activity-based course that addresses collecting, analyzing and interpreting data in real world situations. The following topics are investigated: Exploring and Understanding Data, Exploring Relationships between Variables, Experimental Design, Anticipating Patterns and Statistical Inference. Instructional materials for the course come from textbooks, lecture notes, media resources, professional journals, videos, computer software and the Internet. Throughout the year students reference the AP formula sheet and all necessary statistical tables and charts. Students also have access to the TI-83 calculator and are instructed on their statistical use. Projects are a major part of this course and students complete three to four projects a semester. The culminating activity of this course is a project that allows the student to design an experiment, collect data, analyze descriptive statistics, carry out a hypothesis test and communicate their results. This project focuses on the five major topics of the course and enables students to understand how each topic relates to one another, yet is also critically important on its own. Throughout the course students will be given practice problems from previous AP Exams and will review solutions, scoring guidelines and sample student responses. Technology Remark This course develops statistical understanding through the use of technological tools throughout the year.
