In December 2001, Canada and South Africa invited Legwork Environmental Inc. to conduct a two-phased study. Phase I called for a review of the international agenda to develop an inventory of the major intergovernmental organizations and processes which focus on: the mining and the minerals and metals sector; and, those whose mandates and activities directly or indirectly affect mining operations and trade in minerals and metals. Phase II required the review of these and other intergovernmental bodies in terms of their potential to contribute to, or serve as models for, a futur
