My Grandmother’s Hands By Teresa Fitzpatrick I want to be the woman she became. I want to be the woman she became. I want to be the woman she became. Food was never an issue at our house, If you were hungry no matter who you were she would give her last morsel off her plate to feed you. I want to be the woman she became. She never hoarded her soft touch to anyone, I remember looking at her hands seeing the wrinkles and wishing I could know the story behind those soft wrinkles. I want to be the woman she became. Now I watch my grandchild and see my grandmother’s ways in her. And I realized I have in some ways become my grandmother. I hope I am the woman she became. What a wonderful point to reach in my life, I try to not only be a teacher of education but a teacher of life. Can I be the woman she was Hopefully my grandchildren will look at my hands and remember how soft and gentle they were. They remember the life lessons I have tried to instill in them. They will love others without prejudice and make every day count. * * Color was never an issue in her eyes or home. Racism never entered our house . She took care of everyone including her young grandchildren begging on her doorstep. No one was turned away if they needed a friend. *
