The Iroquois lived in longhouses and the name Iroquois means “people of the longhouse” Author Mr. Bruchac has drawn on his experience as a member of the Abenaki tribe and feels that his stories have “much to teach us” Characters Old Chief- needs someone brave to find out what happened to the missing tribe members Swift Runner-characterized a puny tribe member, he takes the wampum from the old chief and sets out on his journey.
