Unit 5 Why do you like pandas Period 3 Teaching aims Knowledge aims: Ss can use the words and useful expressions: Ss can talk about what animals look/are like. Pandas are kind of shy/ cute. Tigers are very scary. Ability aims: To train the Ss’ ability of describing the animals. To train the Ss’ listening abilities by catching the key words.. 2, Teaching important and difficult points: Ss can describe the animals freely. 3. Teaching aids: PPT, A tape player. 4. Teaching procedures: Steps Purpose Step 1: Revision 1 , Brain storming Recall the different kinds of animals they have learnt. 2. Describe the animals by using the different adjectives. 1. Get Ss to recall / describe the different kinds of animals they have learnt. 2. Arouse Ss’ enthusiasm of learning and taking part in this class. Step 2: Presentation 1, Teach new words by talking about the animals ( friendly shy ) 2. Pairwork (show students’ different opinions about the animals) 3. Match the description words with the pictures.(1a) 4 Talk about the pictures like: I think pandas are kind of shy and cute. Let Ss learn the new words, phrases and sentences of this period directly. 2. Let Ss show their different opinions about the animals. Step 3 Listening 1, Listen and circle the description words you hear in 1a . (1b) 2, Listen again and fill in the chart . (1c) 3, Listen once more and fill in the dialogue . 4,Read the dialogue in pairs. To train Ss’ listening ability by catching the key words. Step 4. Practice 1 , Pair work: Talk about what animals you like. 2. Groupwork: Ask your group members about their favorite animals and then make a report. To train Ss’ expressing ability and co-operation ability. Step 5. Talk show 1, Pairwork: Talk about your favorite animals in details in pairs. 2, Share your descriptions or the animals with classmates. To give Ss a chance to improve their oral English.
