Contemporary Chinese literature gains more attention in South Korea 　　It’s reported recently that the South Korean actor and director Ha Jung-woo starts shooting a film adpted from Yu Hua’s 余华 novel Chronicle of a Blood Merchant（许三观卖血记）. When interviewed， Ha Jung-woo expressed that Chronicle of a Blood Merchant is his favorite novel and he would do his best to continue on the big screen the story that moved him. 　　The South Korean version of Chronicle of a Blood Merchant is on the 100 must read books by South Korea JoongAng Daily and the drama adapted from it used to be performed on stage. So far， most works of Yu Hua have been translated and published successively in South Korea， which have become research focuses for the Department of Chinese at the local universities. 　　Quan jiongjun， a South Korean literary critic and professor at the Department of Chinese at the Seoul National University， thinks that there are two reasons for Ha Jung-woo to have chosen Chronicle of a Blood Merchant. One is that this book is popular with many readers in South Korea； the other that the director may admire the unique way of the combination of comedy and tragedy in the book and wherein find the similarities between China and South Korea. 　　An Changxuan， professor at the Hanyang University， comments that the reason why Yu Hua’s works are so popular in South Korea is that he pays attention to the reality of Chinese society. In the past， the South Koreans concerned on Chinese history and culture， especially the historical romances and martial art legends. But in recent years， with the increasingly close relation between China and South Korea， Koreans are more desired to read Chinese contemporary literature than ever to learn about the current ideas and lives of Chinese people. 　　There is the classification of contemporary Chinese literature in the largest bookshop in South Korea- the Kyobo Book Centre.
