Renaissance 1.The Renaissance refers to the period between 14th----mid-17th century. It first started in Italy. 2. It means rebirth or revival----the discovery of ancient Roman and Greek culture. 3.In essence, The Renaissance is a historical period in which the European humanist thinkers and scholars tried to get rid of the old feudalist ideas in medieval Europe, to introduce new ideas that expressed the interests of the rising bourgeoisie/middle class. 4.Humanism is the essence of Renaissance---Man is the measure of all things. Humanism exalted/praised human nature and emphasized the dignity of human beings and the present life. They thought man had the right to enjoy the beauty of life and had the ability to perfect himself and make wonders, which got ready for the appearance of the great Elizabethan writers in Britain. 5.Poetry and drama were the most outstanding literary forms. 6.Shakespeare, Marlowe and Francis Bacon etc. were the remarkable representatives of the English Renaissance. At the age of 18, he married a woman 8 years his senior. A few years later, he went to London. There were several legends for his home leaving. He made great success when he was settled in London. In 1612, he retired from stage and returned to his hometown, where he lived until his death on April 23,1616, his 52nd birthday.
