The English Renaissance Chapter 3 The Flowering of English Literature Reasoning from the Facts From the first half of the 16th C., the English Renaissance began to develop into a flowering of literature and then England became a nest of singing birds. To supply the growing demand of the public, classical and Italian and French works were turned into English. P.38 Was this the real reason for the translation? The nationalist feelings which had risen with the reign of Queen Elizabeth I awakened people’s desire for knowledge about England’s past history. P.38 What is this that prompted the nationalist feelings? Another kind of literature prevailing at the time was the large amount of books describing discoveries and adventures.
