The Strategies for Balancing Preservation and Creation in the Revitalization of Heritage Buildings
A Case Study of Main Street in Unionville, Canada
ABSTRACT This paper examines two typical heritage buildings in the Main Street of Unionville, Ontario, Canada, aiming to understand the strategies for balancing preservation and creation in the revitalization of the heritage buildings in this heritage conservation district. The study focuses on 10 building components including roofs, exterior cladding system, windows and doors, foundations, architectural details, porches, energy conservation, barrier-free design, update of function, and modernized facilities, to summarize the strategies employed in revitalizing heritage buildings in Main Street Unionville.
