On the Effectiveness of Recitation in English Teaching 第一组:丁健 陈明静 刘滢 Outline Chapter One Introduction Chapter Two Literature Review Chapter Three Recitation in Middle School Chapter Four Research and Discussion Chapter Five Conclusion Research Cotents The thesis begins with some basic concepts of recitation in languagne teaching, presents the theoretical basis about recitation, including Krashen’s input hypothesis, information-process theory and chunking approach to learning,and researches on this topic at home and abroad, investigates the current situation about recitation n in junior middle school, proposes several principles of text selection and methods of recitation, and then makes a research on recitation and discuss the multi functions of recitation. Research Background Krashen’s Input Hypothesis Information-process theory Language learning theory Chunking approch Research Purposes The data from domestic has proved that recitation plays a significant role in foreign language teaching and learning. Researches done by the scholars at home and abroad are almost in the university or in the senior high school. However, little has been done in the junior high school. The author does a research on recitation in rural junior school to testify the effectiveness of English recitation and its improvement of learners’ integrative skills in performance. Research Questions Is recitation effective in English teaching and learning? How to apply recitation to English teaching in rural middle school? Research Methods Design 1) Tow junior three classes in Yanfeng Middle School were chosen as experiment subjects. 2) Each students in the experiment classes was assigned subjects 10 texts selected from the teaching materials and asked to recite them in 40 days. 3)The teacher checked out students’ recitation once a week. 2.Samples The total sample was composed of ninety-three students from two classes of Grade Three in Ya
