So, you first need to select from massive information what you really need to read. However, after your selection, you may find that you still have too much to read. So you need to read quickly. But when you read quickly, you may miss the important points. So you need ways to find the main points in the text accurately. In reading, you may also find some sentences or paragraphs express meanings in an indirect or implied way, so you need to make inferences from implied meaning. The following strategies are regarded as critical in effective reading: Skimming and scanning: Quickly glance through a document to get a general idea of the content.
