It can also be used when the well is closed in the crew is waiting on orders or equipment, or it can be employed when stripping in or out of the hole. Dec.2004 H.Khedersolh * Volumetric Method Its not a well-killing method in the sense of being a method of circulating, since it simply coordinates the increase or decrease of annular pressure with the amount of mud displaced from the hole. Dec.2004 H.Khedersolh * Volumetric Method The basic premise of the volumetric method is that each barrel of mud contributes a certain pressure to the bottom of the hole, which may be measured in psi per barrel. If 1 bbl of fluid is bled off, bottomhole pressure is reduced by the amount of pressure exerted by that 1 bbl. psi/bbl of mud = (MW ×0.052) ÷ AC ppg bbl/ft Dec.2004 H.Khedersolh * Procedure for Volumetric Method Record SICP. Rig up a choke line output to discharge fluid into a tank. The tank must be graduated so that fluid can be accurately measured to the nearest gallon. Calculate the psi / bbl of fluid bled from or added to the well.
