When the verb-ed form is used as an attribute, it can be changed into an attributive clause. ■ A verb-ed phrase is actually a verb-ed followed by an object or /and adverbial. The verb-ed phrases can be used as attributive(定语) to modify the noun. ☆ A verb-ed can appear before a noun. It modifies the noun like an adjective. It can be changed into an attributive clause. We should drink boiled water. We should drink water which has been boiled. ☆ Usually, a verb-ed before a noun expresses a positive meaning(被动含义). However, it can express a past meaning (完成含义), such as escaped, retired and fallen. Passive: He is the highly praised scientist The scientist has been highly praised. Past: The ground is covered with fallen leaves. The ground is covered with leaves which have fallen. ☆ We can sometimes put an adverb before the verb-ed.
