Methods Retrospective analysis of 32 cases of lumbar disc herniation by MED effect. Results In 32 cases, 27 patients completed the microscope operations, followed 4 to 54 months were excellent in 24 cases, good in 3 cases; blood loss was 30 ~ 400ml, an average of 120ml, the average incision length of 2cm. conversion to open surgery in 5 cases, one case of cauda equina injury, dural injury in 1, injured spinal venous plexus in 3 cases. Conclusion MED has a small incision, less trauma, less bleeding, nerve root decompression, does not affect the stability of the spine, the advantages of rapid recovery, but more prone to complications. The mean length of incision was 2 cm.Five conversions to open surgery were required.The cauda equina nerve damage was found in 1 case, dural injury in 1 case, hematomyelia in 3 cases.Conclusion Microendoscopic discectomy for lumbar intervertebral disc herniation has advantages of mini incision, minimal invasion, less blood loss, thorough decompression for the nerve root, little effects on spinal stability, and quick recovery.But patients are likely to develop more complications.
