The results of aqueous extract of Forsythia (Forsythia suspensa total ex traction, FSTE and ethanol soluble part (FS a strong inhibition of proliferation of S180 cells, and the remaining parts of the role of weak or no; FSTE and FS a proliferation of mouse spleen cells significantly inhibited. Conclusions and the ethanol extract of Forsythia water dissolved parts of mouse S180 tumor cells and mouse spleen cells significantly inhibited the proliferation. Methods Cell proliferation was detected with methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay (MTT). Results FSTE and its ethanol soluble extract (FSIVa) had strong inhibitory effect on the growth of murine S180 sarcome cells, whereas petroleum ether extract, acetic ether extract, ethanol precipitated extract showed weaker effects or no effects. And FSTE and FSIVa also had distinct inhibitory effect on the growth of mouse splenocytes in vitro. Conclusion FSTE and FSIVa have marked inhibitory effect on the growth of mouse S180 tumor cells and splenocytes in vitro.
