Aldose reductase is a key rate  limiting enzyme in the pathway, while aldose reductase inhibitors can inhibit the pathway and alleviate the symptoms of diabetic complications. This review mainly gives a brief account of the progress of research on aldose reductase inhibitors from microorganisms.
