Methods A case-control study, collected 108 cases of normal weight children and 57 cases of low birth weight children and epidemiological data and the mother’s mother’s blood samples, using PCR RFLP analysis mother MTHFR genotype, regression analysis using Iogistic mother MTHFR genotype and birth weight. Fifty seven newborns with low birth weight were recruited as the case groups , and 108 newborn with normal birth weight as the control group. A face to face questionnaire was administered to collect demographic and relevant information. Blood samples were collected from mothers of both groups. PCR RFLP method was applied to examine MTHFR polymorphisms. Logistic regression was used to analyze the association between genetic polymorphisms of MTHFR gene in the mother and low birth weight in the newborn, while controlling for potential confounding factors.
