Conclusion Compared with Lovastatin , Sal B high glucose and high fat-induced inhibition of endothelial cell apoptosis may play a more slow, but the effect is lasting. [Keywords:] Sal B; advanced glycation end products; oxidized LDL; endothelial cell apoptosis [Abstract] Objective To compare the effects of salvianolic acid B and lovastatin inhibiting endothelial cells apoptosis after incubation for different time.Methods Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) apoptosis were induced by AGEs and ox LDL. After HUVECs were incubated salvianolic acid B and lovastatin for 12, 24, 36, 48, 72 h, percentage of apoptosis were observed under fluorescent microscope by Hochest 33258 staining. Results Although treatment with lovastatin for 12, 24 h, apoptosis decreased significantly (P lt;0.05), treatment with salvianolic acid B for 36, 48 and 72 h, apoptosis decreased significantly (P lt;0.05). Conclusions Compared with lovastatin, salvianolic acid B might exert a later but lasting inhibition effect on endothelial cell apoptosis induced by high sugar and high fat.
