Methods The thin-layer chromatography (TLC) of the prescriptions of the gardenia, turmeric, frankincense, myrrh for qualitative identification; using RP-HPLC (RP  HPLC) quantitative analysis of rhubarb Xiaotong Ling Liniment Su and Chrysophanol content. The results of TLC separation is good, spots were clear; Emodin in 0.248 ~ 1.984μg, chrysophanol 0.292 ~ 2.336 μg in the context of linear relations, the average recovery of emodin is 99.7%, RSD = 0.64%; Chrysophanol for 99.2%, RSD = 0.89%. Conclusion The method is simple, accurate, reproducible and effective in controlling the quality of the compound preparation. The standard curve was linear within the range of 0.248 ~ 1.984μg for emodin and 0.292 ~ 2.336μg for chrysophanol. The average recovery of emodin was 99.7% with RSD of 0.64%, with that of chrysophanol was 99.2% with RSD of 0.89%. ConclusionThe method is convenient, accurate and has a good reappearance. The preparation’s quality can be controlled effectively.
