Accordingly, they need more food for thought and their aesthetic value has enhanced. To fulfil this need, where the oil painting, the carrier of the spirit and social ideology in China, will go? The introduction part outlined the development of China’s oil painting and put forward a false proposition, that is, to nationalize or globalize the oil painting, which has been a controversial issue in the field of China’s oil painting. In the meantime, it defined China’s contemporary oil painting with “China’s modern spirit” and “ China’s modern language”at its core. This definition represents not only the national characters but also the spirit of this age. Chapter I came up with the conception of “context” and elaborated on its basic change and qualities. Futhermore, it discussed the effect of the modern context on China’s contemporary oil painting. Chapter II probed and predicted the general tendency of the development of China’s contemporary oil painting within the modern context and argued the reason behind it.
