TheIn- terdecadal Paci?c Oscillation (IPO) has been investigated before as an indicator of hydrologicalandrelatedtimeseriesinthesouthernhemisphere. Thisstudypresents anewapproach,whichusestherateofchangeintheIPO,ratherthanjustitsabsolute value,tode?neanindicatorfortheclimatecomponentofambientshallowgroundwa- 10 tertablesandcorrespondingstreamsalinity.Representativetimeseriesofwatertable andstreamsalinityindicatorsarecompiled,usinganextensivebutirregulardatabase coveringaverywidegeographicalarea.
