The3haheadwatercatch- ment ofthe perennial Pukemanga Stream, inthe North Island ofNew Zealand, was instrumentedforcontinuousobservationofclimaticdata,stream?owandgroundwater level.Thedynamicsofgroundwaterlevelsandgroundwatercontributiontostream?ow 10 wereanalysedbymeansofaone-parameter,eigenvalue-eigenfunctiondescriptionof a1-Daquifermodel. Modelresultsforsevenyearsofdailydatapredictthat36–44% of the topographical catchment contributes groundwater to the stream. The remain- inggroundwatergeneratedwithinthecatchmentcontributestostream?owoutsidethe catchment. Aftercorrectionforcontributingareas, groundwaterwascalculated
