D -Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the principal psychoactive ingredientinmarijuana,produceseuphoriaandrelaxationandimpairs motor coordination, time sense, and short term memory. In the hippocampus,CBsinhibitGABAreleasefromasubsetofinterneurons andinhibitglutamatereleasefromprincipalneurons.Cannabinoidsare reported to produce both rapid and long-term changes in synaptic transmission.Ourstudywascarriedoutontenmaleratsoutofwhich brains of six of them were used as the representative sample for electronmicroscopeanalysis,while4wereusedforlightmicrospcopy performedbyGolgimethod.ThreewereexposedtoTHCand3were controls.Axodendricsynapsesinthecoreandshelloftheaccumbens nucleus (AN) were studied under electron microscope. The results haveshownwideningofthesynapticcleftintheshellofAN.Thisresult isaleadingpointtoourfurtherinvestigationswhicharegoingtoinvolve a behavioral component, and different aspects of morphological studies.
