Department of Neurosurgery, Shunde Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Foshan 528333China Abstract Objective To evaluate the feasibility of continuous lumbar cistern drainage in order to accelerate the clearance of bloody hemorrhagic cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) due to secondary subarachnoid hemorrhage. Methods The technique of lumbar cistern catheterization was performed for continuous external CSF drainage in 46 patients with secondary subarachnoid hemorrhage, and the drainage process and the therapeutic results were observed. Results After continuous lumbar cistern drainage, the clinical symptoms ameliorate quickly, few complications happened, and the in-hospital time was shortened. Conclusion Continuous lumbar cistern CSF drainage was a simple method for treating secondary subarachnoid hemorrhage. It can obviously accelerate the normalization of CSF, relieve or decrease the complications such as angiospasm, hydrocephalus, and so on.
