Hunan Traditional Chinese Medical College,Zhuzhou 412012,China [Abstract] Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of warm needling in treating lumber intervertebral disc herniation (LIDH) and its effect on blood IL-1a and CGRP, and to compare the efficacy difference between warm needling and simple acupuncture. Methods Sixty LIDH patients were randomized into an acupuncture group and a warm needling group, 30 in each group. In the two groups, bilateral Shenshu (BL 23) and Jiaji (EX-B 2), as well as Huantiao (GB 30), Weizhong (BL 40), and Ashi points on the affected side were treated, once per day, 10 times as a treatment course. Another healthy control group with 15 subjects was also developed. The Japanese Orthopaedic Association Scores (JOA) for lower back pain and the contents of blood IL-1a and CGRP were observed before and after intervention.
