Tilapiaspeciesexhibitalargeecologicaldiversityandanimportantpropensitytointerspeci?chybridisation.Thishasbeenshown inthewildandusedinaquaculture.However,despiteitsimportantevolutionaryimplications,fewstudieshavefocusedonthe analysisofhybridgenomesandtheirmeioticsegregation.IntergenerichybridsbetweenOreochromisniloticusandSarotherodon melanotheron,twospecieshighlydi?erentiatedgenetically,ecologically,andbehaviourally,wereproducedexperimentally.The meioticsegregationofthesehybridswasanalysedinreciprocalsecondgenerationhybrid(F2)andbackcrossfamiliesandcompared to the meiosis of both parental species, using a panel of 30 microsatellite markers.
