TheobjectiveofthestudyistoinvestigatewhethertheHibiscusaethiopicusL.planthasneutralizationactivityagainstvenomsof twoclinicallyimportantsnakes.TheH.aethiopicuswasdriedandextractedwithwater.Di?erentassayswereperformedtoevaluate theplant’sacutetoxicityanditsanti-snakevenomactivities.TheresultsshowedthatH.aethiopicusextractalonehadnoe?ecton theviabilityofC2C12musclecells,butsigni?cantly(P.05)protectedmusclecellsagainstthetoxice?ectsofE.ocellatusvenom at55,150,and300μg/mL.Themaximumprotectivee?ectoftheextractwasexhibitedat75μg/mL.Theextractsigni?cantly (P.001)inhibitedthecytotoxice?ectsofE.ocellatusvenomat300μg/mL.Allrabbits(n=10)andguineapigs(n=10)were aliveafterthetwoweeksofgiventhelethaldosage16g/KgoftheH.aethiopicusextractherbalsolution.Noabnormalbehaviour wasobservedofbothgroupsofanimals.Allguineapigs(n =3)treatedwithvenomsalone(5mg/kg)died.However,allguinea pigs(n=21)treatedwithvenom(5m
