Background.Augmentationindex(AIx)istraditionallyobtainedfrompressurewaveformsviaarterialapplanationtonometry.We soughttoevaluatetheassociationbetweenAIxobtainedfromperipheralarterialtonometry(PAT)withcardiovascularriskfactors (CRF)andcoronaryarterydisease(CAD).Methods.186patientswereenrolledinthestudy.ThepresenceorabsenceofCRFsand CADwasassessedineachsubject.AIxwascalculatedbyanautomatedalgorithmaveragingpulsewaveamplitudedataobtainedvia PAT.Centralbloodpressureswereassessedinasubsetofpatientsundergoingclinicallyindicatedcardiaccatheterization.Results. AnassociationwasobservedbetweenAIxandage,heartrate,systolicbloodpressure,meanarterialpressure,pulsepressure,body weightandbodymassindex.AIxwassigni?cantlylowerinpatientswith3CRFscomparedtothosewith5CRFs(P = .02).
